    Summer Travel to Europe 2023

    We Travel to Live
Travelling is good for the Soul

With the pandemic all but over the current state of the pandemic, many are wondering what Travel to Europe in 2022 summer travel will look like. Will we be able to travel freely? What will the rules be?

Here’s what we know so far about summer travel to Europe for 2023.

Over the past 3 years, Travel abroad for Leisure, whether it is for summer holidays or city breaks due to the pandemic has been restricted

Things have changed since mid-2022 and for people who want to Travel to Europe and enjoy their summer holidays in one of the many beautiful countries, there is good news.

From the 1st of June 2022, most countries in the EU lifted travel restrictions and the requirements for Covid Certificates, masks and pre-departure PCR tests have all been removed for summer 2022.

There may be restrictions still present in some countries, check the government websites for more information. Here is the link to the UK Gov Travel advice website

The website has information on each country’s current travel requirements, including the validity of passports & visas.

Brexit and What it means to travel between the United Kingdom and the European Union

As the United Kingdom has now left the European Union, there have been changes to the rules for travellers. British passport holders are no longer considered EU citizens, which means that there are several factors to consider when planning a holiday to a European destination. Additionally, EU citizens visiting the UK should also be prepared and take the necessary steps.

Entry Rules – Are visas required for travel to the EU after Brexit?

Travel to Europe 2023 - Kefalonia Villa for Rent, Kefalonia Villa with Pool, Kefalonia Holiday Villa with Private Pool

For individuals travelling on short holidays, visas are generally not required for travel to most European Union countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

It is important to note that the 26 countries within the Schengen area, including France, Spain, and Germany, follow the same visa regulations and should be considered as a single trip for visa purposes. Specifically, an individual can stay for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa.

However, if individual plans to stay longer than 90 days or will be travelling for business or study, a visa may be required. For further information on passport regulations for British travellers, please refer to the Foreign Office Travel Advice page, this will guide you to the requirements for each country.

    Visa requirements from November 2023

World Map - Travel to Europe - Visas
    Travel to Europe

In November 2023, the European Union will introduce a new visa waiver program for non-EU citizens who are currently visa-exempt. This includes British passport holders, who will need to apply for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). The ETIAS is an electronic entry permit linked to the passport of the traveller.

British passport holders can register for the ETIAS online by providing personal details and passport information, which will be checked against international security databases. The approved ETIAS is valid for three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. This means that UK travellers will not need to apply for a new permit each time they visit Europe.

With the ETIAS, British passport holders can stay in any country within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. The ETIAS is valid for the entire border-free travel region.

    Passport Requirements

As of now, European citizens are required to present a passport in order to travel to the United Kingdom. It is no longer acceptable to use a national ID card for this purpose. The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in the UK.

British citizens planning to travel to EU countries should also ensure that their passport has been issued within the last 10 years and has at least six months of remaining validity. It is worth noting that when travelling to Ireland, passports only need to be valid for the duration of the stay.

Where ever you are travelling to, ensure that you have checked the requirement for that relevant country.

UK and EU Airport Border Control

As a result of Brexit, crossing the border may take longer than previously anticipated. This is due to the discontinuation of dedicated EU fast-track lanes for passport and customs clearance.

Travellers in both directions should expect longer wait times. Additionally, border officials may request to see a return ticket and proof of financial means to cover the entirety of the trip.

It is recommended that travellers have this information readily available to facilitate the border crossing process.

  • Booking a Luxury Villa Holiday in 2023? Here’s What You Need to Know!

Are you planning a luxurious villa holiday for 2023?

Kefalonia Villa rental with pool, Family villa holidays
    Summer Vacation

In our friend & family group, one person tends to be delegated the task of planning our group trips. This person suggests dates, books the place and organises activities.

For 2023, I’m hoping to plan a group getaway with my friends. After being cooped up for so long due to the pandemic, I’m really looking forward to having some quality time with my friends. I would love to have them come to my hometown, but as the host, I’d be responsible for cooking, driving, cleaning, and being their tour guide. Renting a holiday villa would be a great way to make it a hassle-free holiday.

We want to spend quality time together without interruption or eavesdropping, so a hotel or resort won’t really suit our needs. We’re looking for a place where we can socialise, cook together, eat together and just relax without any intrusions. We want to make memories that will last us a lifetime.

We found our perfect getaway – Amari Villa – through Simplyowners, a delightful UK company that arranges villa rentals all over Europe. We were so lucky to be able to book directly with the owners of the stunning 5-bedroom property, which overlooks the beautiful Ionian Sea in Kefalonia.

    Where to go?

From the stunning beaches of the Caribbean to the majestic mountain peaks of Europe, there are countless options for a luxury villa escape. But before you book your ticket and start packing, there are key things to consider when planning your trip, such as who to invite, where to stay and what items to bring with you. Read on for seven tips on booking a luxury villa holiday in 2023.

    1. Who To Invite & Group Size

Group holidays - Luxury Villa kefalonia. kefalonia villa rentals with pool
    Family and Friends on Holiday

The size of your group is an important factor to consider when it comes to booking a villa vacation. If you are travelling with friends or family, decide how many people you want at your party before searching for a villa. Some properties have space for up to 10 people while others can accommodate up to 16 guests. It is also essential to think about the age range of your group so that everyone can enjoy their time at the villa and during activities outside of it too.

    2. Where To Stay & Location

Location is another crucial element when it comes to finding the perfect place for your luxury villa vacation. Look into which country or region offers all of the amenities that you need – from nearby attractions and activities like shopping, restaurants, wineries and more – as well as what type of climate works best for your group. Also, keep in mind any special requests or needs that some members may have such as wheelchair accessibility or availability of special equipment like life jackets or fishing rods.

Villa locations, Resorts or Private Villas

The popularity of multi-generational travel is on the rise as families look to reconnect after the pandemic. When organizing a multi-generational getaway, it is important to ensure that the accommodation meets the needs of all members, from infants to elderly relatives. Consider booking a villa to guarantee the perfect amount of space and amenities for everyone.

When searching for a holiday villa, it is important to take into account more than just the number of bedrooms. Are step-free access and reliable WiFi essential? Do you need to factor in toys for different ages of children? Creating a list of essential and desirable features will help you to easily narrow down your search.

The European market for vacation rental properties continues to grow, providing a wealth of options for those seeking unique and personalised holiday experiences. This trend has been accelerated by the pandemic, as more travellers opt for private accommodation over hotels as a measure of safety. As a result, villa holidays are expected to become increasingly popular in the years ahead.

Once you have established the type of holiday your group desires, narrowing down potential locations will be more straightforward. If beach-based activities and swimming are desired, a property near the beach may be the best option. Alternatively, if your primary focus is to be immersed in nature, a property located in the mountains or a forest may be the most suitable choice. “Make your holiday an unforgettable experience by choosing the ideal location and the best villa accommodation.!”

    3. What To Bring & Amenities

Once you have chosen the location and size of your party, consider what amenities will make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable at the villa itself. Many luxury villas come equipped with kitchens, living rooms, patios and pools but if these aren’t available then make sure you bring supplies like cooking utensils, bedding sets and pool toys along with other personal items like sunscreen, swimsuits and hats. Don’t forget items like towels either! Additionally, look into bringing any technology that may be useful such as laptops or tablets so that everyone has access when needed during their stay.

    4. Plan Activities

Once you book your villa, start thinking about activities that everyone can enjoy during their stay. This could include anything from beach days and exploring local villages to cooking classes and wine tastings!

When it comes time for booking a luxury villa escape in 2023 there are plenty of options out there! Consider who will be joining you on this adventure first then move on to where you want to stay before bringing together all of the necessary items needed for an unforgettable experience. With these seven tips in mind, let the planning begin! A sensational holiday awaits!

    5. Get Travel Insurance

Investing in travel insurance is always a good idea when booking any type of vacation, especially if it is international travel or something more expensive like renting a villa for multiple weeks or months at a time!

    6. Research Local Laws & Customs

Researching local laws and customs before travelling anywhere is important, especially when travelling abroad where customs may differ greatly from those back home! Be sure to look up any laws and regulations related to where you plan on staying so that everyone follows them while there as well as respects local customs while visiting other places nearby too! Don’t forget to learn a few words of the local language – the local people will love you for this.

    7. Book Early

Booking early gives you more options when it comes to finding the perfect villa for your group and allows time for any necessary prep work (like researching laws/customs) before heading out on vacation! Plus, early bookers often get better rates than those who wait until closer to their departure date!

If you book early, you will have more choices of dates, destinations and accommodations. You will also be able to take advantage of early bird discounts. However, you may have to pay a deposit and there is always the risk that something may come up that prevents you from going on the holiday.

However, there may be fewer choices available and you may not be able to get your first choice of destination or accommodation. Melissani lake, the underground lake. Take a boat ride and experience the magic

The mystery of Katavorthres and the cave of Melissani baffled scientists for years, earning the area the reputation of being one of Kefalonia’s most visited sights. Seawater would disappear inexplicably into cracks near the shoreline. Using special dye, experts finally discovered that the water was crossing the entire southern part of Kefalonia underground, travelling through permeable limestone and found its way to the mystical cave.

Majestic Melissani Lake in Kefalonia: A Sight to Behold

Without a roof and with a blue lake within, the cave receives sun rays creating a magical atmosphere. This renowned sight in Kefalonia’s reputation grew further when it was found to be a sacred site dedicated to the Greek god Pan. This is also the cave of a sad love story.

Why is Melissani is known as the cave of the Nymphs?

The unrequited love story of Melissani lake

If you’re looking for an unforgettable sight to behold while on vacation in Kefalonia, look no further than Melissani Lake. This natural wonder is a must-see for all visitors to the island. Melissani is located in a cave system just inland from Sami and takes its name from the nymph Melissanthi, who was said to have bathed in its crystal-clear waters.

According to Greek mythology, Melissani was a nymph who fell in love with Pan, the god of the wild. When her affections were not reciprocated, she drowned herself in the lake that now bears her name. Melissani is therefore also known as the Cave of the Nymphs.

Boat Trip and Swimming in Melissani Lake

The Boat trip (gondola) in the lake is a must, see the amazing clours of the water as the sunlight hits the water from the open cave roof, it is hauntingly beautiful. Ensure you take your camera/video as you definitely want to capture this incredible place.

It is not advisable to swim in the lake as giant eels are present in the lake.

    Best time to visit

The visual effect of morning and evening rays has a special quality. One feels as if boats are floating in the sun’s light.

    History of Drograti Cave

If Melissani Lake is one of the most beautiful sites on the island of Kefalonia, then the Drogarati Caves must be one of the most unique. This natural wonder is a network of caves and chambers that have been carved out by centuries of erosion. The result is a stunning sight that is well worth a visit.

Close to Melissani is another Kefalonian cave of significance, Drograrti also known as Drongarati. Revealed after an earthquake more than 300 years ago, this 60-metre-deep cave is estimated to be around 100,000,000 years old. Stalactites still hang from the ceiling and make magnificent shapes, even though it has been severely damaged by earthquakes. Due to its impressive acoustics, it often plays host to spectacular cultural events held on the island. A concert here is a must, while you are visiting Kefalonia.

The Drogarati caves are located in the northwest of Kefalonia, near the village of Sami. They are a stunning cave system with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The caves were first discovered in 1951, and have since become a popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore the caves on foot and they provide a unique glimpse into the natural world of Kefalonia.

Although it has suffered extreme damage because of earthquakes, stalactites still hang from the ceiling and form amazing shapes. As water droplets fall on these shapes and solidify, they give them another shape, long but gradually over the centuries.

The natural beauty of the formations

Nature created countless stalactites and stalagmites. Their different colours are the result of the minerals in the bedrock over which they grow. When rainwater filters through the bedrock, it falls to the ground below and creates stalactites growing downward from the roof, leaving layers of lime deposits. The process also leaves a layer of deposits at the cave’s bottom that create stalagmites.

Do not touch the stalactites as their growth process might be disrupted. By touching them, skin oil can remain on them preventing future calcification and can change their colours

Speleologists found an extension of the cave which is not approachable. But it is believed that there is a connection to several other caves in the area.

The amazing acoustics of Drogarati Caves

Entering Drogarati cave and seeing the elaborate natural platform, called the “royal balcony”, overlooking the main chamber. The acoustics here are fantastic, don’t be shy–just sing anything and feel like an opera singer.

The last event took place in 2014 when the cruise ship MS Deutschland with the Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra on board docked at Argostoli port. They held an unforgettable concert in the Drogarati

Tours available at the Drogarati Caves

There are several different tours available at the Drogarati Caves, and each one offers a different perspective on the cave system. The most popular tour is the Standard Tour, which takes visitors through the main chambers of the cave. The Standard Tour is a great way to see the caves in all their glory, and it’s also relatively easy to do. The Classic Tour is a more challenging option, and it takes visitors through some of the less accessible parts of the cave. This tour is not for the faint-hearted, but it’s definitely worth doing if you’re up for a challenge.

The Royal Balcony is a natural platform of stalactites and the only space that shines light in this stunning cave. From there, the visitor can see small lights emanating toward them, creating an extremely colourful view. The entrance leads to two other chambers, the Chamber of Exaltation, with great acoustics; and an elongated corridor that goes up to it from a coloured area known as ‘Chamber B’, which can accommodate 500 people.

How to Get to Melissani Lake and Drogarati Caves

Both the Melessani Lake and Drogarati Caves are located near Sami.

To get there you can take a bus, drive, or a private tour. It is best to have your own transportation or a private tour because the buses don’t run very often. The drive takes about half an hour from Sami, and the road is in good condition.

Visit both on a day trip. Tour guides will be happy to show you around both.
